Or you can travel to a neutral spot, heal/restore skill and travel back to the previous spot to continue exploring. ![]() Sure, you can be ambushed while resting, but that many times work in your favor, as the encounters aren’t that hard and you gain more XP. If you can rest after every combat to regain hit points and combat skills at no cost, then why force resting at all? Just restore them after combat ends, like Pillars of Eternity does. Insta-crafting or resting before completing makes no difference.Īnother example is healing or recovering combat skills. Or “With 2 flower I can make Healing Potion or an Acid Bomb, which do I chose” (Trade-off). If I craft and rest 3 times right now, I wont have supplies left to rest to recover my combat skills if I need” (another trade-off). Or “I only have supplies to rest 3 times. “I only have 2 candles but this many crafting possibilities, so I need to prioritize” (that is a trade-off). ![]() Quests don’t fail if you take too long to complete them, the game doesn’t become more difficult as the in-game time passes, so why force the player to rest (pass time) before the crafting is done? The trade-off in crafting is present in the fire and ingredients required to craft or in the rarity of the ingredient and multiple recipes that require that rare ingredient. You don’t consume food, rations, camp supplies or any finite resource in order to rest (no trade-off). You have combat skills that only refresh after resting, you can heal your character by resting, crafting requires resting to complete but there is no trade-off to resting. Many of the game mechanics are “locked” behind resting. If there is no trade-off to a certain action/activity or mechanic involved, then it is pointless to artificially create a limit or barrier to that activity/mechanic. It is about trade-offs (the lack of) in the many game mechanics.
